Breastfeeding Complication

Breastfeeding is not supposed to hurt it
is meant to be an enjoyable bonding moment with your baby, however; it is
normal to develop sore nipple in the first few days of breastfeeding. Common
complications of having sore nipple is improperly positioning your infant to
your beast, not having infant latch to the breast properly, and shallow
latching (sucking on nipple not entire breast). Therefore, to avoid these
complications, support your breast while having your infant on its side without
turning its head with his mouth and nose facing your nipple. This encourages the
infant to open wide to latch on a large portion of the areola not just your
nipple.

Another complication is engorgement this
is when the breast feels full, heard, and heavy making it harder for baby to
latch on. This condition results from delayed or infrequent breastfeeding of
infant.  To avoid this condition, you can
make sure to breastfeed your infant every 1 ½ – 2 hours, hand-express, or use a
beast pump. Also, applying warm compressions or a warm shower to help facilitate
milk let-down. If there is still swelling and pain, you can use NSAIDs or cold
compression to reduce it.

Lastly another complication is mastitis which
is infection caused by bacteria entering the breast tissue. This
condition starts with untreated block milk ducts that causes a section of
breast to become red, tender, and painful. This condition causes mother to feel
achy having flu like symptoms which may need to be treated with antibiotics.

not microwave breastmilk it causes uneven heating creating hot spots making it

the frozen or refrigerated milk, or overnight defrosting in the refrigerator.

Disadvantages of Breastfeeding

Having to feed your infants more often
when they are breastfed than when they are bottle-fed. Some mothers do not like
the thought of having dietary restrictions or not being able to take certain
medications because it can pass through the breastmilk. Society attitudes make
some women feel uncomfortable of the thought of feeding their infant in public sometime
even if the public is their own family members. You cannot just go anywhere
because only you can feed your baby; unless you are pumping. Finally, some
women choose not to breastfeed because their breast may not return to their
pre-breastfeeding size and shape.

Feeding
Formula

Breastfeeding
is the ideal source of nutrition for infants but, when breastmilk is not
available or  those who choose not to
breastfeed formula is the best alternative for baby first year of life. There
are a variety of infant formulas available to meet the nutritional and dietary
needs of your infant. A few of the available infant formula are: milk-based, iron-fortified
or reduced-iron, Soy-based (none animal protein/ glucosamine), Lactose-Free, hypoallergenic,
and exempt infant formula for infants with specific medical conditions.
